BiographyChris Austin – in the past has worked for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation as a Database & Research Coordinator, where he also managed IT services for the Foundation’s regional offices in the North West Territories and throughout the Canadian Prairies. Chris has also served as a Military Police Officer for approximately the last 12 years with the Canadian Armed Forces in the Army Reserve, and now manages his own IT company in his riding of Edmonton-Spruce Grove, Alberta. Chris is well known for his dedication and for his commitment to community service, whether it be in London, Ontario where Chris served the community for over ten years as a member of the Co-operative Housing Committee’s & Management, or now in Spruce Grove, Alberta where Chris coached the Pewee, Bantam, Midget football team and soccer teams. Along with his enthusiastic support for his community, Chris is also passionate about public service. He is committed to a responsible and accountable government that reduces the tax-burden on seniors and low and middle income families. He is also an advocate for reforming violent crime legislation, maintaining effective environmental standards for our children and advocating for the protection of a fair and accessible free health-care system. Chris holds an honours diploma in Law Enforcement from Westervelt College, as well as a Computer Programming diploma from Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. Since 2006 Chris has also managed his own computer consultancy company, working with a wide variety of clients in Alberta. Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Chris has lived in the community for seventeen years. Chris currently resides in Spruce Grove, Alberta with his partner Jo-Ann and son Dylan.

The art of door-knocking, Sherman style

Check out this great blog written by Keith Gerein of the Edmonton Journal about Dr. Raj Sherman’s first day of doorknocking in Edmonton Meadowlark.

As an emergency room doctor, Raj Sherman says he is used to talking to people about difficult subjects.

In comparison, the Liberal leader says its easy to ring a doorbell and ask residents to support him in the provincial election.

“If you don’t ask, you won’t get,” he said Monday afternoon, while running from house to house in his riding of Edmonton-Meadowlark. “This is actually the part of the campaign I love.”

Sherman was elected in the west-end constituency in 2008 as a Progressive Conservative, so it’s unclear whether voters will support his move to the Liberals. His travel schedule as party leader also means he’ll have less time to campaign at home.
